Presenter Kirsty Young gave an emotional sign-off to King Charles' coronation coverage which she has called "history". The BBC presenter, who is well known for her ability to find eloquent words at the most emotional times, had just completed a long stint anchoring the BBC's coverage of the coronation.
After thanking her last two guests she turned to the camera and said: "There we are. I've never seen anything quite like it. And I imagine neither have you. What a day. History unfolding in front of our very eyes."

She then went on to talk about King Charles saying: "The man born in that palace just behind me more than seven decades ago today, finally, meeting his destiny and stepping out onto its balcony crowned King. He greeted the crowds, we saw there, with a warm smile, cementing his relationship as their sovereign and by his side to support him, his Queen, and heirs.
"That roar of approval from the crowd on the Mall seem to tell us something about the joy that this coronation day has brought to so many who will doubtless tell their families in decades to come: 'I was there'."
After this she turned to how the old-fashioned elements of the ceremony had a role in bringing people together. She said: "The arcane ceremony in the Abbey, that exquisite music, the priceless jewels and magnificent carriages were dazzling. A reminder, maybe, that however much the world changes tradition and ritual and ceremony still play an essential part in bringing us together in a spirit of celebration and community.
"The King pledged his sacred oath and wore an ancient crown but all in the presence of a very modern congregation: environmental campaigners, charity volunteers, war veterans, and even a few spangly superstars in its midst. All witness to the beginning of a new era for Britain and the Commonwealth. And as that sea of happy faces and fluttering union flags took over the centre of London many millions around the country and the world will have doubtless tuned in to see the spectacle – including that remarkable parade where our military did what it does so well, gilding the occasion with unrivalled pomp and pageantry."
She signed off saying: "Today so much of the United Kingdom and all its splendid variety has seemed unified in celebration on a day that's been fit for a King. Thank you so much for joining us and, for now, goodbye."
