Kirstie Allsopp 'horrified' after witnessing 'flying' BANANA skin in Stockport on roadside littering rant

Kirstie Allsopp says she was forced to throw a 'flying' banana skin back into the car of a littering motorist in Stockport, as she took to Twitter to complain about roadside rubbish.

The TV presenter said she noticed the problem while travelling around the UK over several weeks recently, but singled out Stockport as the scene of a particularly shocking incident.

"In the last few weeks, travelling around the UK, I’ve been horrified by how bad roadside litter has become," she wrote on the social media platform. "Why is litter so much worse, who thinks chucking an empty red bull, for example, out of a moving car is acceptable?"

She then referenced a recent incident in Stockport, where she said she threw a banana skin back into the offending car after it 'flew' out the vehicle's window.

"Last week in Stockport a banana skin flew out of the window of the car in front, we were at [traffic lights] and I was a passenger so I leapt out of the car, picked it up and threw it back into the car, the driver just threw it back out again," she wrote.

"But that’s not how to solve the problem. What is the solution……£££ fines? In some places police take litter very seriously, I don’t feel that in the UK though."

She then continued on to ask her fans what they thought the solution to the problem was.

"Closing roads to clear the litter?," she asked. "This would inconvenience us all, but would be a reminder of the cost of litter. Asking roadside landowners to clear their patch? What do you think?"

Plenty of fans supported her complaint, with one saying he was '100% with' her. "Lots of the roadside hedges are being cut now, exposing more of the built-up litter… surely easier to pick up now, so why don’t councils/highway agency go tidy up at this point??," he wrote.

"I’d happily vote for any party that prioritised it."

One woman wrote 'the planet deserves so much better' after telling Kirstie 'I know what you mean': "It's so brazen and I can't understand why people don't care?," she tweeted.

"I've been on a litter pick today, and in a small stretch of road collected 16 bags of rubbish, 318 NoS canisters and 75 bags of dog poo. People are disgusting! The planet deserves so much better."

"With you! We remarked on the litter on the A64 just this weekend. You’d think a bin wagon had overturned!," another replied.
