Kirkgunzeon's Rory Young takes fourth place on Beatson’s Building Supplies Jim Clark Reivers Rally

Rory Young was the top Dumfries and Galloway finisher on the Beatson’s Building Supplies Jim Clark Reivers Rally.

The Kirkgunzeon driver and navigator Allan Cathers had only been on the reserve list for the event – the third round of the KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship.

But after making the start line, they finished a fine fourth in their Citroen DS3 Rally 2.

They were two places ahead of Dumfries’ Mark McCulloch in his Proton. Castle Douglas’ Jock Armstrong was eighth overall, keeping him at the top of the standings in his Subaru Impreza.

Angus Lawrie of Castle Douglas and Paul Gribben of Annan were 12th in their Mitsubishi Evo 9.

Reigning junior champion Robert Proudlock of Dumfries was 19th overall and second in the M2 class in his Opel Adam. He was one place ahead of Dumfries duo Peter Stewart and Harry Marchbank, who took Pro2 honours in their Peugeot 208 Rally 4. Second in Pro2 was the similar car of Richard Stewart and Mark Roberts from Dumfries, giving them their first Haddo Energy Super Seniors win of the year.

The C2 category was won by Dalbeattie’s Scott Gourlay and Castle Douglas’ Greg Alcorn in a Peugeot 205.

Mechanical woes put paid to the challenge of multiple Scottish champ David Bogie of Dumfries and his Ford Escort MkII.

The next round of this year’s series is the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally over the weekend of June 23 and 24.
