Kirkgunzeon’s Rory Young took his first ever KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship win on Saturday.
And it was a Dumfries and Galloway one-two on the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally, with Dumfries’ Mark McCulloch coming home second.
Young and Allan Cathers took the lead in their Citroen DS3 Rally 2 on Saturday morning and were involved in a battle with the Proton Satria Evo of McCulloch and Michael Hendry for the rest of the day.
And it was Young who prevailed, taking the win by 27 seconds as he finished third overall, eight seconds away from the runners-up spot.
McCulloch and Hendry were delighted to run the Rally 2 car so close, having matched their times on Saturday morning before backing off to guarantee they were second of the Scottish championship runners.
There was also success for Dumfries’ David Hardie, who scored maximum two-wheel drive points with John McCulloch in their Ford Escort Mk2.
Castle Douglas’ Jock Armstrong still leads the championship after coming home 11th overall in his Subaru Impreza with Hannah McKillop.
The next round of the series is the RSAC Scottish Rally, based in Dalbeattie, on July 22.
