Kirkcudbright Primary pupils win Kirkcudbright Rotary's annual school quiz

Kirkcudbright Rotary Club recently held their annual primary school quiz.

Teams from Auchencairn, Borgue, Gatehouse, Kirkcudbright and Twynholm primaries took part.

They impressed with their knowledge of a wide range of subject, answering questions such as:

1. What is the more common name for the bone called the “mandible”?

2. In text messaging what does the code “brb” stand for?

3. Cans of soup are sold at 63p each or on special offer for a pack for four for £2.

How much will I save if I buy the pack instead of four separate cans?

4. How many red balls are there on the table at the start of a game of snooker?

All pupils worked well as part of the team for their school which no doubt contributed to the overall high standard and impressive knowledge. Kirkcudbright Primary School were the winners, demonstrating excellent general knowledge and particular skills in language and literacy and expressive arts.

The quiz was ably hosted by Kirkcudbright Primary School, and the thanks of Kirkcudbright Rotary Club go to them, to the teachers of all pupils who attended for preparing the pupils so well, and to the parents of all pupils for bringing them to the quiz. The answers were 1 – the jaw bone; 2 – be right back; 3 – 52 pence; 4 – 15.

Meanwhile, Kirkcudbright Academy pupils have received equipment from the town’s Rotary club to help them with a variety of environmental projects.

Among the schemes they’re involved with are tree planting and creating a wild flower meadow.

Rotary in Kirkcudbright is carrying out a number of projects in the town and surrounding area that will form an important role in improving the environment in these challenging times.

The enthusiastic support of the academy pupils helps to create a better awareness of the benefits of good environmental practice in the local community.
