Kirkcudbright garden to open to the public for charity

A garden at the Dhoon on the outskirts of Kirkcudbright will be opening this weekend to raise money for charity.

Once dubbed “The Garden of the Unexpected”, 3 Millhall has a series of paths on a hillside running alongside the rocky shore of the Dee Estuary in Kirkcudbright Bay.

The location is stunning and each turn in the many paths reveals another interesting plant in this wonderful collection to admire.

This garden is an impressive five acre plot with a large collection of mature shrubs, including more than 200 rhododendron species, camellias and many rare southern hemisphere plants.

At this time of year many flowering shrubs provide colour and there is always something of interest to see in this plantsman’s garden.

The garden will be open between 2pm and 5pm on Sunday, April 16 and also by arrangement throughout the season.

It can be found on the B727 between Kirkcudbright and Borgue on the west shore of the Dee Estuary. Parking is available at Dhoon Beach public car park, about three miles south of Kirkcudbright. There is a five minute walk to the house as there is no vehicular access to 3 Millhall.

Admission is £5, children free and proceeds will go the Kirkcudbright Hospital League of Friends and Alzheimer’s Research UK. For further information visit www.scotlandsgardens.org
