Kirkcudbright charity football match raises more than £3,000

A charity football match in Kirkcudbright raised more than £3,000 on Saturday.

The Wee Andy McKie Memorial game took place at St Mary’s Park –- home of St Cuthbert Wanderers.

A mix of the club’s senior and colts players faced the under-15s, with the game ending in a draw.

And in the process, £3,430 was raised in memory of Andy McKie, who died in March 2022 when he was just 16-months-old.

Mum Amie McColl, who organised the game, said: “People’s generosity has been absolutely mind blowing.”

The game attracted a huge crowd (Sam Kelly)

The money raised will go towards a solar powered defibrillator cabinet to be installed at the ground.

Amie decided to support the club as her 15-year-old son, Kalim Carruthers, plays for Saints’ youth teams, and six-year-old daughter Tegan McKie recently joined the set-up.

Kalim captained one of the two teams for the game, with kids taking to the park at half-time to blow bubbles in memory of Andy.

There was also a tombola, lucky squares and a raffle, with prizes including a signed Queen of the South shirt, a special footstool made by Jenny Gardner and a night for two at Galloway View Holiday Lodges thanks to Lizzie and Euan Hutchison.
