Since 2016, the Minnesota Vikings have had a revolving door when it comes to offensive play callers and offensive coordinators. With head coach Kevin O’Connell, that now comes to a stop.
As we head into the 2023 season, quarterback Kirk Cousins will now have the same play caller and offensive scheme for the first time since 2016, when he was in Washington with Sean McVay.

While this might feel minor, it’s far from it. Having that continuity is very beneficial for not only Cousins but for the rest of the roster who are still with the team next season. O’Connell mentioned Wednesday in his press conference the perks that come along with being the same offense year over year.
“There’s not so much learning that needs to take place at the base way of doing things. Now we can tweak, adapt, evolve”
In Cousins’ first season under O’Connell, we saw him grow as a leader and a player on the football field. Countless times this season, we witnessed Cousins make throws under pressure or give Justin Jefferson opportunities in one-on-one coverage.
By keeping the offensive scheme the same, Cousins now has an opportunity to grow even more in these areas and help take this Vikings team even further next season.
