For the second week in a row, it sounds like the rock group Creed inspired a Vikings win, according to quarterback Kirk Cousins.
After Minnesota’s 22–17 win over the 49ers on Monday night, Cousins detailed how a Creed song played a part in the team’s pregame experience. The players were listening to the 1999 hit “Higher” in the locker room until it was turned off when some of the players began praying before the game.
Cousins noted that safety Harrison Smith made a “great point” by saying that the song “is the prayer.”
The quarterback admitted that he liked that comment, but then told reporters that he wished the team would play more Creed songs, instead of just “Higher.”
“But, they keep playing ‘Higher,’ and I’m going ‘Creed has a lot of hits. They’ve got a good catalog,’” Cousins said. “We don’t have to only play ‘Higher,’ but they’re taking us higher.”

The Vikings aren’t the only professional team relying on Creed songs for motivation right now. The Rangers have credited the band and the song “Higher” for their postseason run, which has resulted in the organization making it all the way to the 2023 World Series.
