Kirk Cousins hits two major milestones in Falcons’ loss to Chiefs

Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons were unable to win a tightly contested game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but the quarterback did hit two major NFL milestones in a Sunday night’s 22-17 loss.

Cousins has tied former NFL legend Dan Marino as the fourth-fastest quarterback to reach 40,000 career passing yards, achieving the feat in his 153rd career game.

Three other quarterbacks in NFL history have passed for 40,000 yards in fewer games than Cousins. Drew Brees (152 games), Matt Ryan (151 games), and Matthew Stafford (147 games) are the three fastest to reach the milestone.

That wasn’t all, though.

Cousins surpassed 49ers legend Joe Montana for 19th all-time in career passing touchdowns, now at 274. It will be interesting to see how far he can climb this list over the next few seasons.

While it appears Cousins is playing in a limited capacity because of last season’s Achilles injury, what he’s doing for the team right now should provide some level of optimism for the future.

And the future is exactly what Cousins is focused on as Atlanta moves on from a game that was so close, yet so far away.

“I think we’ve left a lot of opportunities out on the field so far, but I think most offenses would say that around this league right now and I look forward to the challenge starting right away this week of just trying to be a better offense as we move forward because I do think that we can be.”
