Kirby Smart shares injury update on OLB Marvin Jones Jr.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart gave an update on outside linebacker Marvin Jones Jr. ahead of the (6-0) Bulldogs’ matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores (2-5).

The sophomore linebacker can’t catch a break. He missed a chunk of last season with a shoulder injury that ultimately required surgery in the offseason. Jones missed all of spring practice, but was cleared for fall camp.

This season, Jones missed the SEC opener against South Carolina with an illness and appeared in the following two games before suffering an ankle sprain in practice last week, limiting him to five snaps in the 51-13 win over the Wildcats.

Smart noted Jones’ unfortunate injuries and shared an update in his press conference on Tuesday.

He played some but really pushed through the pain really well. He just didn’t get a lot of reps so probably wasn’t quite 100%. Played more in the previous games. He’s had a run of tough luck with two games almost missed due to different things.

Jones will likely get some playing time on Saturday, barring any setbacks. He has been practicing this week.

The Bulldogs are on a bye next week, which should help Georgia get healthier ahead of a matchup with rival Florida in Jacksonville on Oct. 28.

Fellow outside linebacker Darris Smith has an uncertain status ahead of the Vanderbilt game. Kirby Smart also noted on Wednesday that Georgia safety David Daniel-Sisavanh has returned and is practicing. Smart is hopeful that Daniel-Sisavanh will play against Vanderbilt.
