The undefeated Georgia Bulldogs enter their first road game of the season with a lengthy injury list. The Dawgs face an Auburn team that is struggling to get much going offensively.
Georgia is expected to be without All-SEC offensive tackle Amarius Mims for the next several weeks as he recovers from ankle surgery. The Bulldogs have a banged up running backs room. Georgia has missed a few key pieces on defense over the past couple of weeks.
Buy Bulldogs TicketsGeorgia football head coach Kirby Smart provided an injury update on several Bulldogs, including wide receiver Ladd McConkey ahead of the Auburn game.
Wide receiver Ladd McConkey
Georgia has a deep wide receiver room, but Ladd McConkey was expected to be the Bulldogs’ top target. Head coach Kirby Smart doesn’t appear to be optimistic McConkey will play against Auburn.
I don’t know. He did some things today. He got to practice. He didn’t do much Monday. He ran routes and caught balls and then today he got in plays and ran routes.
Smart and the Bulldogs are not trying to rush the preseason All-SEC first-team receiver back.
I’m going to go watch the tape of what I went over with him and see what he looks like. We’re just trying to progress him back slowly whether it’s this week in a role or whether it’s the future. Not trying to rush him back.
Safety Javon Bullard
Georgia safety Javon Bullard missed the South Carolina and UAB games with an ankle injury. Bullard is feeling better, and there’s a chance he can play against Auburn according to Kirby Smart.
Javon was able to do more today, and he felt the best he had. He did walk-throughs. He ran on the side. He did some scout period stuff. Again, those guys (Javon Bullard and Mykel Williams) are probably going to be very close right there with Ladd and Kendall, so it could be into the weekend before we know.
Defensive end Mykel Williams
Georgia defensive end Mykel Williams, who has two sacks this year, is the Bulldogs’ top pass rusher. Williams could put up some numbers against an Auburn offensive line that allowed seven sacks at Texas A&M last week.
Williams has been sick and missed the UAB game. He is feeling better ahead of the Auburn game, but is not 100% going to play against the Tigers.
Mykel did some exercise today and felt better. Hoping he’ll be able to go, but don’t know that yet. We’ll probably know more tomorrow.
Kirby Smart will know more about Williams’ status later in the week.
Running back Roderick Robinson
Georgia freshman running back Roderick Robinson would see a significant number of carries if he were healthy. Robinson has an ankle injury and probably isn’t playing against Auburn, per Kirby Smart.
Roderick hasn’t gone much. He’s been in the training room dealing with the high ankle.
Running back Kendall Milton
Kirby Smart is more optimistic Kendall Milton will play against Auburn, but he needs more time to know if Milton can give it a go.
Kendall was able to go some today and did some stuff. I saw him out there. I didn’t get to see how much he did or how he looked doing it. I’ll evaluate that on tape, but he was able to take reps and go, cut and do some things.
If both Milton and Robinson can’t go, Georgia will rely more on Dillon Bell and Cash Jones against the Tigers.
