A Kippen house has been nominated for a prestigious Scottish architecture prize.
The Ostro Passivhaus is named among the 14 buildings by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) for their 2022 awards.
The prize aims to recognise the best new buildings constructed in the last 12 months, with this year’s entry list spread across the breadth of the country from Galashiels and Jedburgh in Borders to properties in Fife and Falkirk.
Ostro, built by Paper Igloo, is described by RIAS as a ‘contemporary and exemplary low-energy dwelling’ and aims to dispel the concept that quality contemporary architecture cannot be made low energy or in an environmentally unfriendly fashion.
The house also sits within the context of its surroundings in the Stirlingshire village, with woodland and an area of outstanding natural beauty in close proximity.
An expert jury will assess each project’s architectural integrity, sustainability criteria, usability, context and delivery and execution.
The winners of the 2022 RIAS Awards will then go on to form a longlist for the organisation’s Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award, with that prize announced later this year.
The full list of 14 entries for the RIAS Award is: Barony Campus in Cumnock; Forth Valley Campus in Falkirk; Fungarth House in Dunkeld; Glenkinchie Distillery in Tranent; Havenfield Mews in Edinburgh; Hebridean House in South Uist; High Sutherland in Galashiels; Inverness Justice Centre; Jedburgh Grammar School; Lockerbie Sawmill; Ostro Passivhaus; Quarry Studios in Ballater; The Den in Glasgow; and The Larick Centre in Tayport.
