Kinnoull move up to third in the First Division after showing "tremendous character" in 2-1 Coldstream win

Kinnoull manager Alan Cameron highlighted the “tremendous character” shown by his players following a 2-1 win on the road against Coldstream yesterday.

The First Division three-point success moves the hard-working Perth side up to third in the table and level on points with second-placed Newtongrange Star.

Kyle Woolley, in fine scoring form since the turn of the year, opened the scoring with a free-kick before striker Mark Smith doubled the advantage.

Coldstream did haul themselves back into the game but Cameron’s men held firm to make for an enjoyable trip back up the road.

“I felt the lads showed tremendous character on Saturday to come away with the win at an extremely difficult venue,” he explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“We started on the front foot and deservedly went ahead through a Kyle’s free kick.

“Mark added an opportunistic second and, while Coldstream pulled a goal back before half time, in the second half we defended well and limited them to some long range efforts which Jordi (Duncan) dealt with.

“We had a couple of chances to kill the game as it ebbed and flowed but found their goalkeeper in fine form.”

Despite moving into the top three, Cameron will be keeping his squad’s feet on the ground.

He said: “We now have a break from league business for a couple of weeks of cup matches.

“The boys will continue to work hard and take each game as it comes along.”
