King tells ScotRail passengers 'mind the gap' in coronation message

SCOTRAIL passengers were told to “mind the gap” by King Charles over the weekend – after the monarch recorded a special message to mark his coronation.

The King and the Queen Consort Camilla Parker-Bowles recorded the message for Network Rail to mark the coronation on Saturday.

It begins with the King saying: “My wife and I wish you and your families a wonderful coronation weekend.”

Camilla then adds: “Wherever you are travelling, we hope you have a safe and pleasant journey.”

It ends with the King saying: “And remember, please mind the gap.”

The announcement ran across UK rail networks, including in Scotland, and was devised by the UK-wide rail infrastructure organisation Network Rail.

Network Rail chief executive Andrew Haines said: “Our station colleagues are pulling out all the stops to welcome people to London for the coronation and it's fantastic that they will also be welcomed by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.”

Jacqueline Starr, chief executive officer of the Rail Delivery Group, said: “The coronation is a rare and exciting event and we very much look forward to welcoming passengers with this special message.

“It's wonderful that their majesties are including rail passengers as part of this historic moment.”

The customised announcement ran from Friday, May 5 until Monday, which is a bank holiday to mark the coronation.
