King’s Coronation: Meet London’s biggest royal superfan

As the preparations for the King’s Coronation get underway, there is one person who is particularly ecstatic. John Loughrey, a royal superfan from Streatham, has already started camping out to see the King’s Coronation.

Mr Loughrey became fascinated by the Royal family from the age of 6, when he would see his mother reading magazines about Princess Margaret and Peter Townsend. His excitement has continued for 60 years and he has spent as long as he can remember collecting huge amounts of memorabilia.

John’s latest purchase is a Gold coin, just 1 of 650 have been made that has the first portrait of King Charles III on it. This coin cost John £5,500.

Mr Loughrey says he attends every big Royal event. He even spoke to the Queen at the funeral of Princess Diana. He goes on; ‘I’ve been there for all of the Royal Family, for the sad times and the good times, for the crown’.

‘It’s the build up to the coronation that’s most exciting’ and the moment that will bring most joy to Mr Loughrey will be when he sees King Charles on the balcony at Buckingham Palace.
