'King of Knowle' - Bristol City fans react to Famara Diedhiou's Africa Cup of Nations triumph

Bristol City favourite Famara Diedhiou created history on Sunday night after winning his first piece of major silverware.

The 29-year-old striker started in Senegal's dramatic penalty victory over Egypt with Liverpool's Sadio Mane scoring the decisive spot-kick to lift the Africa Cup of Nations for the country's first ever time.

Diedhiou certainly played his part starting in five of their seven contests, scoring against Equatorial Guinea in the quarter-finals and assisting in the 2-0 win over Cape Verde.

He was certainly making the most of his heroic achievement by posing with the trophy and winners medal from his bed on Monday morning with a huge grin on his face alongside the caption 'history.'

City fans won't need reminding of his time at Ashton Gate having spent four seasons in BS3 before joining Alanyaspor following the expiration of his contract last summer.

Diedhiou, who scored 51 goals in 169 games for The Robins, may have divided opinion during his time in the south-west but City supporters united to applaud his achievements including chairman Jon Lansdown.

Supporters headed to social media to praise the striker while former team-mates Andi Weimann and Jamie Paterson also congratulated Knowle's finest.

Diedhiou wasn't the only former City player to represent their country at the tournament with academy graduate Joe Wollacott also involved.

Wollacott, now at Swindon, went from being City's third choice keeper to Ghana's No1 although the Black Stars underwhelmed finishing bottom of their group.

Ex-defender Steven Caulker also made three appearances for Sierra Leone although they also failed to reach the knockout stages.
