King Charles shares clever tip for perfectly cooked roast potatoes that are fit for royalty

When it comes to rustling up a roast dinner, the one thing everyone wants to make sure they get right is the potatoes - as crispy roasties that are fluffy on the inside are the backbone of any good Sunday dinner.

And while a quick Google search will bring up hundreds of tips and tricks for how to make your roast potatoes stand out from the crowd, another hack has recently been shared by an unlikely source - King Charles himself.

The monarch spoke about the best way to cook potatoes during a visit to the Bradford HQ of popular supermarket chain Morrisons on Tuesday, which formed part of his two-day trip to Yorkshire.

According to the King, you shouldn't be adding oil to your potatoes when you put them in the oven, and you can also ditch the fancy duck or goose fats - as the best way to cook your roasties is by using the fat from whatever joint of meat you've been cooking.

Rebecca English, Royal Editor for the Daily Mail, posted the King's hack on Twitter, where she also shared a video of him shaking hands with Morrisons workers.

Her tweet read: "At the Bradford HQ of @Morrisons The King offered his tip for the perfect roast potato (cook them in fat from the joint!) as he smelt an 'irresistible' rib of beef."

King Charles' top tip was also backed up by commenters on the tweet, as one woman responded: "His Majesty is absolutely spot on! Nothing better than a beef-dripping roast potato!"

His Majesty's visit to the Morrisons HQ has also seen him win over employees who work at stores around the region, as they gave him a hearty cheer after he told them he hoped they would have time off for Christmas.

He spoke to people involved in farming, community, sustainability and the company's apprenticeship programmes, and as he arrived, he chatted to people who worked at stores around the region, telling them: "Thank-you for your wonderful efforts. I hope they let you off at Christmas."

Later, in a short speech, he told the staff: "It's a great joy to see you all today. I had no idea quite how many of you worked here at Morrisons."

Following the Morrisons visit, a reception at Bradford's City Hall will be held, with musical performances in Centenary Square before he visits Leeds.

On Wednesday, he will be joined by the Queen Consort for engagements in York and Doncaster, including unveiling a statue of his late mother at York Minster. He will also confer city status on Doncaster.

He decided to head to Morrisons' HQ after the firm demonstrated its sustainability and retail initiatives. That includes its rare breed programme and recently launched carbon-neutral eggs.

Later, the King will meet representatives from the Child Friendly Leeds team, who are dedicated to making the city better for families and young people.

After, he will unveil a plaque to mark 10 years since the late Queen Elizabeth II launched the programme.
