King Charles' message to William, Harry, Kate and Meghan as he addresses nation

King Charles III has addressed the nation for the first time since the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Despite his grief, the new monarch has also had his first audience as monarch with Prime Minister Liz Truss this afternoon. His Majesty paid a heartfelt tribute to our late Queen, whom he said was an "inspiration".

The new sovereign also spoke of Queen Elizabeth II's "lifelong service", along with her "warmth" and her "dedication and devotion to the sovereign".

He added: "The affection, admiration and respect she inspired became the hallmark of her reign." He also said how privileged he has been to bear the title of "Prince of Wales" for most of his life.

The new King expressed his love for Prince William, who now inherit his Prince of Wales title. He has also inherited the titles of Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay.

King Charles added that he knows William will serve his country well, with the love of Princess Catherine by his side. The new monarch then spoke of his son Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan.

His Majesty said he extended his well-wishes to the Duke of Sussex and his wife as they continue their life together overseas.

He said: ""As my Heir, William now assumes the Scottish titles which have meant so much to me.

"He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities for the Duchy of Cornwall which I have undertaken for more than five decades.

"Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty.

"With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given.

"I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas."
