King Charles may relax strict table rule that Prince Louis has to follow, says expert

Big Royal Family gatherings are often few and far between - but one big traditional get-together looks set to happen this week.

That's because Friday marks the start of the Easter weekend, which usually sees the royals descend on Windsor Castle for church services, Easter egg hunts - and of course lots of food.

This year will be a bittersweet time for the royals as it will be the first Easter without the late Queen, who was known to cherish the holy holiday.

But it is likely many of the royal Easter traditions will remain under King Charles - from attending a service at St George's Chapel on Easter Sunday to enjoying a grand dinner together.

However, according to royal expert Ingrid Seward, it could be that Charles has relaxed a strict rule on dining that his late mother used to insist on - and it would have affected Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The royal biographer and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine told The Sun : "They will all have dinner together but not the young children they will eat in the nursery dining room.

"The Queen always said until they could hold a knife and fork properly they could not eat at the table, but Charles might have relaxed that rule a bit. But dinner is only for grown-ups."

"Traditional Easter fare like roast lamb – everything will be from the royal estates, so it could include venison, pheasant chicken, spring vegetables, new potatoes, and carrots. Salmon caught in the River Dee and roast ham could be included"

However, it is not just at Easter when royal kids usually eat separately from the adults - it also happens at Christmas.

In 2019, Mike Tindall, the husband of the King's niece Zara spoke about family celebrations on his rugby podcast and shared a few exciting details about the annual royal pre-Christmas lunch.

His co-stars James Haskell and Alex Payne asked which of the seven tables he sat at.

They asked: "Do you find yourself upgrading every year and getting closer to the main table or are you off out the back?

"Is there a promotion and relegation based on the year's performance? Because if there is I imagine you're pretty much sitting on the right-hand side of Her Majesty."

Mike stayed quiet throughout the jokes, but later added: "I was on Prince Charles's table, it was lovely."

He then divulged that the royal little ones, including his own children Mia, Lena and Lucas, have their own table in a separate room away from the adults.

He said: "This is the family lunch, there were seven tables so there must have been about 70 of us there.

"The kiddies have their own little one in a different room."
