King Charles lands in Scotland just one day after the Queen's funeral

King Charles III has arrived in Scotland today after the nation mourned the passing of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

A popular flight tracking website now appears to show the jet of His Majesty has landed at Aberdeen Airport. It is unclear the reason for the royal visit at this time.

The sovereign has left RAF Northolt on the private jet with the Queen Consort Camilla is by his side, reports Aberdeen Live.

The Royal Family will continue mourning for another week and will perform no public duties scheduled for seven days, following the Queen 's funeral on Monday.

While in Scotland, he is expected to visit Balmoral, where the Queen died 12 days ago.

It is understood he may also spend a period of time at Birkhall, his Scottish home on the Balmoral estate. He inherited from the Queen Mother following her death in 2002.

Thousands lined the streets of the capital as Her Majesty was laid to rest following a touching ceremony at St Paul's Cathedral.

It is estimated millions of people across the globe watched the ceremony on television.

His return comes after the royals last night published an unseen picture of Her Majesty happily hiking in Balmoral.

The picture, showing the late monarch in her beloved Scottish residence in 1971, came after a difficult day for the family and country as they said goodbye to the monarch for the last time at a service in Westminster, before another in Windsor.

Alongside the image was a quote paraphrased from William Shakespeare's Hamlet which King Charles had ended his first public address to the nation with, 24 hours after his beloved mother's death.
