King Charles III's coronation date leaves people baffled as 'problem' spotted

The date of King Charles III's coronation has left people confused.

Buckingham Palace confirmed today the new monarch will be crowned on Saturday, May 6 2023. The ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey and will also see his wife Camilla crowned as the new Queen Consort.

The event will form the centrepiece of days of celebration to mark the official beginning of the new king's reign. The Palace said the ceremony will be "rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry" but also "reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future".

The date of the ceremony has baffled some users on Twitter who spotted the coronation will fall on the birthday of his grandson, Archie. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son will turn four on May 6 - and people took to Twitter to question why the King selected that date.

Krishna said: "Out of all the days in the year why did Charles pick Archie’s Bday as his coronation day???? Why?????"

Fran added: "Of all the dates, why has the coronation been set for Archie’s birthday?"

Ali posted: "Is no-one going to mention that the Kings coronation is the same day as Archie's birthday? Pretty poor."

Troy commented: "Sussex Squad Assemble!!! May 6, 2023 we ride for Archie!! #ArchiesDay in spite of the coronation date…THEY COULD’VE PICKED ANOTHER DATE!!!! WE RIDE FOR ARCHIE!!!"

The organisers of the King's coronation have worked alongside ministers to select the date that will officially start the King's reign. Other people took to Twitter to point out the date honours when King George V ascended to the throne.

J said: "His Majesty’s Coronation will take place on May 6th 2023, the anniversary of the accession of his great grandfather, King George V, the founder of the House of Windsor"

Rosita commented: "It has nothing to do with Archie's birthday it has all to do with his great grandfather's date of coronation which was also May 6th."

Jennifer tweeted: "King Charles III will be crowned on a date filled with significance for the House of Windsor. His Majesty’s #Coronation will take place on May 6th 2023, the anniversary of the accession of his great grandfather, King George V, the founder of the House of Windsor."
