King Charles III returns to Scotland following Queen Elizabeth II's funeral

Newly-appointed King Charles III is returning to Scotland following the state funeral of his beloved mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

The Royal Family are set to remain an a mourning period for another seven days, and will perform no public duties during this time, reports the Mirror. The monarch has left RAF Northolt via private jet, alongside the Queen Consort.

It has been reported that he is due to land in Aberdeen at approximately lunchtime. Charles laid Queen Elizabeth II to rest at St George's Chapel in Windsor yesterday, surrounded by the rest of the Royal Family.

MailOnline reported that the King's escorts bowed and removed their helmets as the monarch boarded the plane. While in Scotland, the King is expected to visit the Balmoral estate, where the Queen passed away on Thursday, September 8.
