King Charles III has continued with royal duties north of the border following his ascension to the throne last month - with a reception for a top Australian official at Balmoral Castle.
The monarch, who is just under a month into his reign, welcomed Linda Dessau to Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen Live reports. Ms Dessau is the governor of the Australian state of Victoria and met with the King - who is also the head of state for the Antipodean nation - on Wednesday morning.
Charles wore a grey suit with a burgundy patterned tie and pocket handkerchief. He smiled, standing with his hands behind his back, as he posed for photographs with Ms Dessau in the library at Balmoral on Wednesday morning.
Ms Dessau, who was a family court judge, has been in the role since 2015 when she became the first female governor of the state in south-eastern Australia. She acts as the monarch's representative in Victoria, which includes the city of Melbourne.
The visit at Balmoral - where Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died almost a month ago at the age of 96 - comes two days after the King and Queen Consort carried out their first official obligation in Scotland. The couple bestowed city status upon Dunfermline on Monday after the Queen granted it as a gift to mark the Platinum Jubilee.
He chatted with locals and met with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Scottish Secretary Alistair Jack, as well as Lord Provost and former Dunfermline Athletic manager, Cllr Jim Leishman. Charles then acknowledged his late mother's role in giving the city its new title.
The King said in a speech to locals: "It is my hope that all those who live in, or who hail from, this very special place will feel a real sense of pride at this latest chapter in our rich history, and that this new distinction will not merely burnish the legacy of the past but will also brighten the prospect of our future. That would, I know, gladden my dear mother's heart, as it certainly gladdens mine."
