King Charles hurt by Harry's claims but hopes for reconciliation, insiders claim

King Charles III is said to be deeply hurt by Prince Harry's recent criticisms, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to level a series of serious accusations against the royal family.

The Palace has remained silent on Harry and Meghan's tell-all Netflix documentary, in which Harry claimed that his father had said things that "just simply weren't true", accused royal press offices of briefing against him and Meghan, and called his brother William "terrifying".

Harry alleged that Kensington Palace “lied to protect my brother” when it issued a statement denying a story William had bullied him out of the royal family.

Despite being bruised by his son's remarks, Charles is reportedly being urged not to strip the Sussexes of their titles and is instead seeking to take a reconciliatory approach to the situation.

"The hope is that once the dust has settled the family will be able to move on and put the past behind them,” a Palace source said.

The source said of The King: “He loves both his sons and hope springs eternal for a happier future all round. If some can stop fixating on the past.”

Asked about the possibility of The King extending an olive branch, they added: “Let’s see how things evolve.”

Despite the Netflix turmoil, it has been reported by the Daily Telegraph that Harry and Meghan will still be invited to the King’s coronation on May 6.

Guest lists for the religious affair in Westminster Abbey have yet to be drawn up, but a source told the newspaper: “All members of the family will be welcome.”

Buckingham Palace declined to comment. But a source said of the King: “He loves both his sons."

There is speculation that the pair may give up their royal titles as the fallout from their Netflix docuseries continues to simmer.

A poll conducted after the latest episodes were released, commissioned by the Daily Express, showed that 62 percent of respondents think that Harry and Meghan should relinquish their royal titles.

Only 25 percent said they should keep them with 13 percent saying they ‘Did not know.’

However, sources close to The King have reportedly made it clear that he will not support MPs who want to strip any members of his family of their titles.

Downing Street has said that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is also not in favour of such action.

Tory MP Bob Seely is seeking to amend the 1917 Titles Deprivation Act to give the Privy Council power to downgrade Harry and Meghan’s royal status.

But without Government support, his efforts are in vain and constitutional experts have warned that it would be technically difficult to amend the 1917 Act, which was aimed specifically at a handful of German aristocrats fighting against Britain in the First World War.
