King Charles' Coronation rehearsal sees military personnel parade through London

The rehearsal for King Charles' Coronation took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning as horses and military personnel paraded through the streets.

The practice procession was due to take place at 10pm on Monday night but was delayed before hundreds of military officers set off on horseback across central London. King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel from Westminster Abbey via Parliament Square, along Whitehall, around Trafalgar Square, through Admiralty Arch and down The Mall back to Buckingham Palace on May 6.

Their procession spans just 1.3 miles in comparison to the late Queen's 1953 celebratory journey, which travelled five miles through London including Piccadilly, Oxford Street, and Regent Street.

Charles and Camilla will be travelling to Westminster Abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach and return via the same route in the Gold State Coach. The coronation will see the largest military ceremonial operation in 70 years, with more than 6,000 men and women of the UK's armed forces taking part in the historic royal event.

Sailors, soldiers, and aviators from across the UK and the breadth of the Commonwealth will accompany Charles and Camilla to and from Westminster Abbey

Nearly 400 armed forces personnel from at least 35 Commonwealth countries will also be on parade to mark the historic moment.

This comes after reports surfaced that rehearsals for the King's Coronation were overrunning significantly as the event looms closer. An insider told The Mirror: “It’s all very frantic, complete chaos to be frank. There is a plan, which is supposed to be the blueprint of how the day should operate, but things are changing daily which is causing massive headaches.”

One source remarked how indecision between the households had also led to rows over what tiaras the female royals would wear. They added: "Senior female royals were only informed of outfits this week prompting a rush to finalise fitting arrangements."
