A-List celebrities who said NO to King Charles' Coronation concert

It's finally the day of the much-anticipated Coronation concert for King Charles and Queen Camilla - but it is fair to say not everything went to plan in the run-up.

The glitzy concert to mark the new monarchs taking to the throne appears beset by problems with must-have world-class artists sending their apologies.

Organisers were hoping global megastars would sign up to celebrate in Windsor in early May to officially welcome the start of the new Carolean era.

They wanted to put on a show to the world but big-name bookings have proved very hard to secure.

There will be plenty of excitement with Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, veteran rock guitarist Steve Winwood and Nicole Scherzinger all added to the line-up.

But they've not been able to nail down the super stars everyone wanted.

Kylie Minogue turned down the chance to perform for the King after things became quite political.

She said no to the Royal event after weighing up account growing Republican sentiment in Australia, it has been claimed.

Kylie, 54, was advised that the gig would not go down well with those back home, with the idea of constitutional reform ramping up in the months following Queen Elizabeth II's death in September.

The latest snub came as invitations for the 2000 expected attendees were mailed across the world, with foreign leaders, royals, and dignitaries among the impressive guest list.

A source told the Mail on Sunday: "Kylie has been an honorary Brit for many, many years, and admires the Royal Family and everything that they do. But she is also a passionate Australian and has read the room in a country that could very soon become a republic."

She, however, wasn't the first star to say no.

Organisers of His Majesty’s big Windsor Castle concert thought it would be a very easy sell but it's certainly not the case.

Those in charge of bookings have reportedly been met with a number of rejections - and artists don't seem to be jumping at the chance to be a part of history.

Icons Sir Elton John and the Spice Girls joined the list of those who can't make it.

The Rocket Man won't be performing due to his European tour, which sees him performing in Germany the Friday before with not enough turnaround time blamed.

Meanwhile, Melanie C, Mel B, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton had been tipped to reunite for the Coronation, less than a year after they were forced to pull out of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, according to the Daily Star.

But the 90s legends have decided against the show despite talk of another world tour - without Victoria Beckham.

Harry Styles was also forced to say no as he continues to tour the world with his sell-out Love On Tour stadium show.

Meanwhile, fellow Brit Award winner Adele turned down an offer due to previous contractual agreements.

Ed Sheeran "was unable to make the concert due to logistics and previous touring commitments" it was claimed.

That came as a big blow to organisers with Ed and Adele said to be top of the King's wish list.

Tom Cruise, Winnie the Pooh and Dame Joan Collins will feature during the Coronation Concert.

Also among the new additions are Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage, DJ Pete Tong with his Ibiza Classics project, and winner of The Piano TV talent show, Lucy. Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor will also deliver a spoken-word performance.

A royal source told OK! “The King has suggested a number of people he would like to perform and Adele and Ed were on that list.

“He was very keen that they were part of the concert.

"There is a team set up to get the talent signed up so they approached the two of them, but got replies saying that they were unavailable, which was a massive disappointment. They are titans of the showbiz industry and are quintessentially British but also known across the globe. It’s such a shame.”

Despite several artists turning down the offer to perform for Their Majesties, a string were quick to sign on the dotted line shortly after being asked.

The Mirror revealed earlier this month that Take That would be performing at the Coronation after teasing fans with an announcement – but without Robbie Williams and Jason Orange.

Instead, Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald who continue to work together as a trio will delight the nation with some of their biggest hits.

Music legend Lionel Richie is set to open the concert on May 7th, held at the Monarch's personal residence of Windsor Castle.

The 73-year-old Dancing On The Ceiling icon has signed up to take to the stage at a special concert in celebration of the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Elsewhere, American songstress Katy Perry who has worked alongside King Charles for several years recently expressed her delight at being asked to perform.

During a chat with Extra's Melvin Robert, Katy explained that the invitation was "very regal," adding: "It was like a cursive I have never seen… I loved it."

Reflecting on the "honour" of performing, the mum-of-one added: "I'm an ambassador to one of his foundations for the British Asian Trust, which primarily focuses on ending child trafficking, which is a huge issue of our time that people don't talk enough about, and it just aligned with all my values… He asked me to sing and it all aligned."

But Katy is getting more than just an invite to the event, she was told she could stay at Windsor Castle.

Elsewhere Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, Alexis Ffrench and Freya Ridings will also be taking to the stage as part of the historic celebrations.

The centrepiece of the Coronation Concert, ‘Lighting up the Nation’, will see the country join together in celebration as iconic locations across the United Kingdom are lit up using projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations.
