King Charles has arrived at Buckingham Palace for the first time as monarch this afternoon.
The King's state Bentley arrived at the gates of Buckingham Palace and was met by cheers from members of the public gathered outside. He was pictured alongside Queen Camilla accepting flowers from well-wishers as he arrived flanked by a security detail ahead of his address to the nation this evening.
King Charles shook hands with countless members of the public lined up behind a barrier, thanking them for their good wishes. The Queen followed behind at a distance, before joining the King at his side to view the floral tributes left outside the gates. The pair waved to the onlookers, who gave three cheers for the new monarch and his consort.
It is expected he will be proclaimed as the new King at the Accession Council at 10am tomorrow in the State Apartments of St James's Palace. However, it will be some months before the official coronation ceremony.
Dressed in a black suit and tie, King Chalries left Balmoral this afternoon seated in the back of a car, with his wife Camilla to make their way to London.
This afternoon King Charles will meet with Prime Minister Liz Truss for the first time as king, before a televised address to the nation at 6pm.
It is believed the new king's speech will be aired on all major TV channels, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5.
