King Charles has officially been crowned the new monarch but thanks to his support of Burnley, he will have been celebrating for some time.
The Clarets recently won promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, sending their fans, including the King, into delirium. The King's support of Vincent Kompany's men is far from the first instance of the royal family taking an interest in football.
In fact, it appears that the royals' interest in the sport has been increasing through recent generations. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at who they support, with an interesting theme emerging.
King Charles - Burnley
More than a decade ago, it was revealed that the new King is a Burnley supporter. He had been doing charity work in the area, with the Clarets subsequently handing him a VIP season ticket.
When asked why he follows them, he said: "Burnley has been through some very challenging times and I'm trying to find ways of helping to regenerate and raise aspirations and self-esteem in that part of the world."
Prince William - Aston Villa
It is well known that Prince William is a passionate supporter of Aston Villa. The heir to the throne has frequently been seen at Villa games and attended the 2015 FA Cup Final which they played in, revealing the origins of his connection to the club ahead of the game.
“A long time ago at school I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run of the mill teams," he told the BBC.
“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa’s always had a great history.
"I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton v Aston Villa back in 2000. Sadly, Villa went on to lose to Chelsea.
“It was fantastic, I sat with all the fans with my red beanie on, and I was sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time. It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt that there was something I could connect with.”
William is also president of the FA, a role he took on in 2006, which has led to him also frequently attending England games, including the Euro 2020 final.
Queen Elizabeth - West Ham
As like much of the other parts of her life, Queen Elizabeth attempted to stay neutral when it came to football. But back in 2009, the Mirror revealed she was a West Ham fan, having followed them since the 1960s.
She let slip her love of the Hammers after overhearing staff at Buckingham Palace talking about their rivalry with Millwall. Her revelation surprised some, though she did meet club legend Ron Greenwood several times.
"The Queen has never wanted people to know who she supports because she wants to be seen to be neutral," a Windsor Castle source told the Mirror at the time.
"But she gave up her secret after overhearing one of her staff members saying he was a Millwall fan and was talking to another member of staff about the derby between West Ham and their arch rivals. They were quite shocked - after all, she's not exactly your typical West Ham fan."
