King Charles and Queen Camilla celebrate big victory at Royal Ascot 2023

The King and Queen have celebrated a big win at Royal Ascot.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have seen three runners race on the first two days of the historic fixture. They have yet to cheer home a winner with Circle Of Fire producing their best result finishing fourth in the Queen’s Vase.

The Queen presented the trophy to the winners of the Prince of Wales’s Stakes on Wednesday and will join the King to present the Gold Cup on Thursday.

But they also received a trophy themselves at Ascot when officials from Australia delivered the Australia Day Cup, won by Chalk Stream in January this year.

Chalk Stream, who was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II, registered the King and Queen’s biggest success as owners when the feature prize on Australia Day at Warwick Farm in Sydney.

Australia Day, January 26, marks the day the British claimed sovereignty when the union flag was first raised in New South Wales in 1788.

Chalk Stream, who is trained by Chris Waller, claimed a first stakes win for the royal family Down Under in the £91,000 Listed race.

Chalk Stream’s trainer Chris Waller accompanied Peter McGauran, chairman of the Australian Turf Club, and Neil Wilson, chairman of the Victoria Racing Club) at the presentation ceremony.

The King and Queen, who are due to attend all five days of the meeting, have one runner on Thursday, Desert Hero in the King George V Stakes, one on Friday, Candle Of Hope, in the Sandringham Stakes, and King’s Lynn in the Wokingham Handicap.
