'King Billy' wine hits the shelves at Ayrshire shop in cheeky 'Ibrox Balls' promo

A fortified wine named after King Billy has hit the shelves at an Ayrshire shop - cheekily advertised alongside 'Ibrox Balls' sweeties.

The Mace store in Dreghorn, Irvine, currently promotes both products on their Facebook page with the tongue-in-cheek caption: "When King William is in the house we will get our Ibrox balls out."

Tonic tipple 'King William' launched in September as a rival to Buckfast. It is named after the former Dutch-born Protestant king William of Orange and has an alcohol proof of 16.90 per cent - an apparent nod to the Battle of the Boyne.

The historical monarch is revered among loyalists and some Rangers fans - a fact the shop appears to play up to in its social media marketing campaign.

The store posted a picture of a large crate as they announced the product's arrival on Friday, adding: "Everyone, it's back now."
