'Kind-hearted' nun killed in horror car crash named as tributes pour in

Tributes are pouring in for a 'kind' nun who died after the car she was driving was involved in a collision with a JCB.

Sr Cecelia Keating, aged 83, known as Sr Claire, was killed in the collision at Kilbana in Clare on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 4pm on the R487 between Kilbaha and Kilkee on the Loop Head Peninsula.

Sr Keating was a native of Cross village in Clare, but resided in Castletroy in Co Limerick where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Order.

Locals have described her as a “kind and gentle person”.

Several organisations that have paid tribute include the Clare County GAA board saying: ''Deepest condolences to the Keating family on your sad loss. Leaba I measc na Naomh'

One person wrote: “Very sincere sympathy to Srs of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart and the extended Keating family on the very sad passing of Sr. Claire, may she rest in peace.”

While a second added: “Sincere condolences to the Keating family on the untimely passing of Sr. Claire. Rest In Peace.”

Sr Claire is survived by her brother and sister.

Her remains will repose in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Cross, from 6pm to 8pm on Friday.

Her Requiem Mass will take place on Saturday, March 11, in Cross Church at 12pm followed by burial in Kilballyowen Cemetery, Cross.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to the collision on Tuesday to come forward.

Gardaí said: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R487 between 3.45pm and 4.15pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí."
