A Newarthill grandmother has been nominated for our ‘Say it With Flowers’ award by her loving daughter.
Heather Brandon told us her mum, Helen McMaster, shows nothing but selfless dedication to her family.
That has seen her selflessly devote her life to raising Heather and son Paul, and caring for her beloved grandson, Derryn.
Heather told Lanarkshire Live : “My mum does everything for everybody else and I wanted to show her how much we care.”
The 57-year-old gran has a number of challenging health issues, but despite this she is always there for her family.
Heather told us: “Eleven years ago my mum took unwell and had to have her bowel and gallbladder removed.
"Then she had to have a stoma bag fitted which caused her to go into kidney failure.
“She has now been on dialysis for over three years.
"Both me and my brother were a match for her, but it was too dangerous for her to have a kidney transplant and she now gets fed through a tube in her stomach, but she never complains.
“She has got stage four heart failure and it’s all because of her current health issues.
“She donates to Erskine and St Andrew’s Hospice, as well as the British Kidney Foundation and gives back for what she is receiving.”
Heather went on to say: “We did a raffle for the dialysis unit at Monklands Hospital and we raised £258 to help to get the nurses a garden.
“My mum has had two mini strokes, but looking at her you would think she is fine and I wanted to do something nice for her to make her smile.”
And when Heather told us about her amazingly brave mum, we were thrilled to be able to help out, surprising her with a stunning Easter floral display, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.
And on receiving the flowers, Helen told us: “I was really shocked but absolutely delighted to receive these beautiful flowers.
“I would like to thank Heather for thinking of me and to the Wishaw Press for nominating me and Pixies Petals for the lovely flowers which I’ve displayed on my window.”
