Kinahan gang leaders will likely be arrested abroad, says garda chief

The net is closing in on the bosses of the Kinahan crime organisation who are likely to be arrested abroad, the Garda Commissioner said.

Drew Harris said leading members of the cartel are more likely to be taken down by international policing bodies than face justice in Dublin. The commissioner said the High Court granting permission to seize a multi-million euro property from the Kinahan gang has given gardai a morale boost.

The court ruled the Criminal Assets Bureau could seize the luxury mansion in West Dublin that is “effectively owned” by cartel boss Daniel Kinahan, pictured. Mr Harris said: “I think it’s more likely that international law enforcement will bring them to book.

“And that’s fair enough, that somebody brings them to book somewhere. Whenever you engage with people internationally, you just have to set aside any sort of selfish regard, it doesn’t really matter.

“All things balance out, and you’ll get your own success in time.” He said he and his officers have to think what’s our best chance of bringing down the Kinahans.

He added: “The best percentages are probably with international law enforcement.

“It’s probably in respect of flows of cash, the illicit movement of money, illicit business transactions, and drug trafficking.”
