Kim Mulkey delivered some seemingly confrontational words to South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso after her on-court scuffle with LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson. Mulkey implied to the media after the game that if Cardoso had pushed Angel Reese, it would have been a different story.
The SEC Tournament championship game is going to be talked about for several days. The game was a physical battle that had lots of back-and-forth buckets from the teams, and things got heated when South Carolina started to pull away. Milaysia Fulwiley was wrapped up by LSU’s Flaujae Johnson during a transition, and South Carolina’s Ashlyn Watkins and Johnson exchanged words over the wrap-up. Johnson pushed Watkins rather emphatically and began to walk in the other direction. That’s when South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso came in to defend Watkins, pushing Johnson to the floor.
After the game, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley spoke to Johnson before she left the court and apologized to the basketball community for what happened when she spoke with ESPN. However, Kim Mulkey had a seemingly much different response. She took exception to Cardoso’s push and seemed to insinuate that she should have pushed someone like Angel Reese, who is closer to her size.
“I wish she would’ve pushed Angel Reese. You’re 6’8”. Don’t push a kid. Don’t push somebody that little… Let them 2 girls that were jawing, let them go at it.” —LSU coach Kim Mulkey #SECtournament

“I wish she would have pushed Angel Reese, you don’t push a girl who is that size when you’re 6’7.”- Kim Mulkey

Interestingly enough, Reese also spoke to the media after the game and said that everyone should now be afraid of LSU.
Reese: We’re not scared of South Carolina.
Anyone who sees us should be scared.
We’re in a good place right now.#LSU
