Kim Kardashian is often criticised for promoting unattainable beauty standards as she posts edited pictures of herself regularly and appears to have the perfect body.
But one imperfection that the beauty mogul has been open about is her battle with psoriasis.
The reality star has struggled with the autoimmune disease for 15 years and often gets painful flare-ups that cause flaky red patches to appear on her skin.
Kim has been open about her battle with the painful skin condition and she regularly gets the same flare-up on her lower leg.
In a 2019 blog post she wrote: "I can always count on my main spot on my right lower leg, which consistently stays flared up. I have learned to live with this spot without using any creams or medication - I just deal."
Recently, she was spotted with the flare-up again as she showed off her stunning figure while relaxing in a bikini during her tropical holiday.
Here's everything we know about her psoriasis journey and recent struggles.
Kim Kardashian's psoriasis
Kim Kardashian showed off her unedited body during a tropical getaway to the Turks & Caicos Islands recently.
The reality star was spotted lounging on the beach in a metallic bikini from her new SKIMS collection as she celebrated Khloe's 38th birthday.
The beauty mogul looked stunning as she showed off her figure in the swimwear, but it looks like she is continuing to struggle with psoriasis as photos showed a flare-up of the condition on her leg.
Kim's psoriasis started when she was an adult
Kim's issued with psoriasis only started in her 20s and were triggered by a cold.
In a 2019 blog post for Kourtney Kardashian 's website Poosh, Kim opened up about her first attack.
She wrote: “When I was 25, I had my first psoriasis flare-up. I got a common cold, and since psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, this triggered it. It was all over my stomach and legs."
She went on to explain: “Luckily, in my apartment complex at the time, my neighbour was a dermatologist. I showed it to him, and he said to come into the office, and he would give me a shot of cortisone, and then hopefully it would go away (since it was my first big outbreak).
"I did this and my psoriasis completely went away for about five years."
Kim's real psoriasis journey started in her 30s
Although she'd managed to keep it at bay for a while, Kim's psoriasis eventually came back in her 30s.
In the blog she revealed: “This is when my real psoriasis journey began."
She went on to explain that she would get unpredictable red spots, although there was one spot on her right lower leg that would often flare up.
But while she's often been criticised for over-editing her body, Kim explained that she's learned to live with the red patch and although she sometimes covers it up, she's also comfortable showing it off.
She explained: “I’ve become extremely comfortable with my psoriasis. No matter where it is on my body, sometimes I am fine with showing it off and other times I don’t want it to be a distraction, so I cover it up with body makeup.
“If you have psoriasis, you can’t let it ruin your life or get the best of you. You have to do what you can to make sure you are comfortable but not let it take over.”
Kim had huge psoriasis flare-up because of Met Gala diet
Although she's learnt to deal with her psoriasis well, Kim does still get some big flareups that she struggles with.
In an interview with Allure this month she revealed that her diet before the Met Gala caused her to have a "really painful" flare-up.
Kim lost 16 pounds in just three weeks to fit into Marilyn Monroe's dress for the gala, and although she usually eats a plant-based diet she switched to eating meat ahead of the event.
But after the extreme weight loss she started suffering badly, adding: “Psoriasis broke out over my body and I got psoriatic arthritis so I couldn’t really move my hands.
“It was really painful, and I had to go to a rheumatologist who put me on a steroid. I was freaking out. I cut out the meat again, and it’s calmed down.”
