When Liz Truss announced her resignation, it made her Britain's shortest ever serving Prime Minister. After just 45 tumultuous days in the role, which saw multiple U-turns on her economic policies, Truss decided it was time to call it a day,
In a week's time a replacement leader will be elected by Conservative MPs. And King Charles III will prepare to welcome his second prime minister.
Speaking of royalty and lengths of reign,at least Liz lasted longer than poor Lady Jane Grey. Declared queen of England in July 1553, after just nine days the Privy Council decided they wanted her Catholic cousin, Mary Tudor instead and Jane Grey was beheaded.
So it could have been worse. Truss also managed to last longer than David Blaine swinging above the Thames in a glass box.
But here are some things which managed to last longer than she did as Prime Minister.
Anne Widdecombe on Strictly
Paired up with Anton du Beke, Anne Widdecombe stayed in the 2010 dance contest for ten weeks. The retired Conservative MP proved a huge hit with viewers in the BBC dancefloor competition.
The ‘Daily Star’ lettuce
The newspaper asked if Liz Truss would be able to outlive a 60p lettuce. And many thought it was a joke.
But the lettuce boasted the longer shelf life. And when the prime minister announced her resignation, the lettuce 'celebrated' with veggie pals, surrounded by bottles of gin and Union Jack flags.
The first coronavirus lockdown
The first lockdown in 2020 stretched from March to June. That’s almost a month longer than Liz.
Kim Kardashian's marriage
The reality star and Kris Humphries famously tied the knot in 2011. “He just has a really good heart,” Kardashian gushed to Us Weekly. But things went pear-shaped and she filed for divorce after just 72 days of marriage.
B&Q's return policy
If you change your mind, you can return a B&Q purchase to a store, in its original condition, within 90 days. Just take your receipt, order confirmation or sales invoice with you.
Truss's leadership campaign
Truss actually spent more time campaigning to be leader of the Conservatives than she did being leader of the party.
Sam Allardyce as England manager
Allardyce was the England manager in 2016 for just over two months. And the team only played one match with him.
Despite signing a two-year contract, Allardyce stepped down from the role after 67 days following allegations of malpractice after a newspaper investigation into corruption.

Mustard - it depends
Opened mustard will usually keep well for one to two months when stored in a cool dark place. But mustard that has been continuously refrigerated will generally stay at best quality for about 12-18 months.
