Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson brought their nine-month relationship to an end over the weekend and the reality star is said to be "very sad" at their demise.
The pair first met when Kim, 41, took over the hosting duties on Saturday Night Live, and they shared a kiss in an Aladdin skit on the show. They quickly grew close to each other and their relationship even featured on Kim's family's reality show titled The Kardashians.
However, it's reported "distance and schedules" contributed to the breakdown of the romantic connection with sources saying it's "been hard" for Kim to deal with.
Speaking to Page Six, a source close to the star said she will always care for the 28-year-old and "have his back". Another insider told the publication they aren't terribly shocked at the break-up news.
They said: "Pete knew it wasn't going to work. He'd been saying it for a while - and Kim knew it, too." A third added the duo's age difference was another factor in the split, saying they were just "in very different places at the moment".
This summer saw the former SNL funnyman spending a large chunk of time in Australia while he worked on his latest movie, while Kim has been juggling her successful businesses and co-parenting her four children she shares with ex-husband Kanye West.
Following the news of Pete and Kim's split, the rapper took to Instagram to post a grim mock-up newspaper front cover with the headline: "Skete Davidson dead at age 28." The newspaper also featured Monday's date and the words: "Kid Cudi meant to play funeral but fearful of bottle throwers."
The 45-year-old's comments, which are just the latest in a long line of attacks on the comedian, aren't said to have gone down well with his ex-wife - or some of their fans. Some fans commented on the now-deleted post telling the star he had "gone too far" this time.
Page Six reports that Kim asked her ex to delete the post on several occasions before he finally took heed and agreed to the request. A source told them: "“Kanye is back to his old ways, and Kim will not tolerate his bullying behaviour toward the people she loves and cares about."
They added that Ye's petty move only reinforces "why there will never be a chance of reconciliation" between the former couple despite on-going rumours.
