Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry lead celebs 'cancelling' Fourth of July after abortion ruling

Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry are just two celebs who have "cancelled" their Fourth of July celebrations following the overturning of Roe v Wade.

The duo, as well as the likes of Jessica Chastain and Kim's sister Kourtney Kardashian, have decided against celebrating the day which marks America's independence.

They've decided to take a stand against the country's decision to strip women of their right to have an abortion.

It comes after the Supreme Court decided to overturn the Row v Wade case and reverse the ruling which guaranteed a woman the right to an abortion.

The decision has been publicly slammed by many stars and their current showing is just the latest in a long line of outbursts.

Reality TV stars Kim and Kourtney both shared the same message on their Instagram Stories, saying: "4th of July has been cancelled due to a shortage of independence. Sincerely, Women."

Katy Perry, whose tune Firework has been adopted as the unofficial anthem for the yearly celebration hit out: "'Baby you're a firework' is a 10 but women in the US have fewer rights than an actual sparkler smh."

Jessica Chastain, meanwhile, shared a snap of herself flipping off the camera in her show of disgust.

She captioned the shot: "'Happy "Independence" Day from me and my reproductive rights."

Elsewhere, pop superstar Lizzo posted a video pledging a huge donation to abortion funds to mark the day.

She vowed to donate proceeds from her shapewear brand Yitty to Abortion Funds during the holiday weekend.

She captioned a video of her talking about her decision: "'@yitty 100% OF NET PROCEEDS TO @abortionfunds ALL WEEKEND LONG. JULY 2-4. Celebrating freedom on our terms. Liberating Every Damn Body."

Actress Zooey Deschanel also shared a snap of her to her Twitter account. She could be seen wearing a t-shirt which bore the phrase "Pro Roe 1973" across the chest.

Of course, some celebs still chose to celebrate the occasion, but many did so while still making a statement.

Among those was Lisa Rinna, who showed off in a red, white and blue bikini. However, she captioned her post: "While you are in between cocktails and hot dogs celebrating the 4th don’t forget Roe V Wade was overturned. Here’s why. #janeelliott Don’t let them take away ALL OF OUR RIGHTS."
