Kim Basinger opens up about divorce from 'challenging' ex-husband Alec Baldwin

Kim Basinger has opened up about her ‘challenging’ past marriage to fellow actor Alec Baldwin – who she divorced back in 2002.

The 68-year-old Hollywood siren tied-the-knot with troubled actor Alec, 64, back in 1993 and together they welcomed 26-year-old daughter Ireland Baldwin back in 1995.

Kim and Ireland appeared on Red Table Talk this week – the talk show is hosted by 50-year-old Jada Pinkett Smith who is, of course, married to disgraced Oscar winner Will Smith, 53.

During their sit down, Kim’s past marriage with Alec – who tragically shot dead 41-year-old mum-of-one Halyna Hutchins last year on the set of movie Rust – was raised.

Jada asked the actress: “Parenting can be difficult, and Ireland having the anxiety issues that she's had, was that a difficult process with Alec, or were you guys able to kind of see eye to eye on how to handle it?”

Kim then asked: “Eye to eye?”

She followed up the quip, saying: “No. No, that was not – Alec’s a funny one.

“We’re all fine and we all get along, whatever. But he’s been — but he’s a challenge.”

She went on to suggest that the actor is emotionally unavailable.

Kim said: “We’ve had our challenges. And I don’t think Alec was emotionally or mentally available for that kind of talk. Alec, you know, operates in a very different way in his life.”

Ireland also suggested that Alec is emotionally immature.

She said of her father: “He deals with anxiety greatly, but he's someone who grew up in a family that would suppress that as well, or tell him he's weak for feeling that way.

“There's things I would go to my father for, but if I ever even tried to have this conversation in any way with him, I don't think he would be able to really absorb any of it.”

She continued: “He can't really sympathize as much with it, but it's not his fault, and he's gotten way better.

“I mean I think he really suppressed his anxiety like up until pretty recently. He's really been dealing with things that kind of have been thrown at him.”

She added: “He's been forced to finally deal with these things.”

Last October, Alec fatally shot cinematographer Halyna in an on-set accident on his film, Rust.

The actor fired a gun towards a camera – with a single bullet hitting Halyna in her chest and also exiting her body and striking film director Joel Souza, 48, in the shoulder.

The family of Halyna have been left appalled this week as camera footage from the fatal shooting has been released.

Body-cam footage showed Alec asking the late cinematographer about the scene where he would fire a bullet, and other footage showed paramedics desperately trying to save her life.

According to TMZ, lawyers working on behalf of Halyna’s husband, Matthew, have emailed Sheriff Adan Mendoza over the decision to share the clips, saying he trampled on their dignity and privacy.
