Kilo of 'heroin' found in taxi footwell during stop check

A kilo of suspected heroin was found in the footwell of a taxi.

Officers spotted a private hire vehicle in "suspicious circumstances" in Bootle before carrying out a stop check in Netherton. When the car was searched a kilogram of suspected heroin was recovered. Two people in the car were taken to custody. After a number of searches of addresses Merseyside Police recovered cannabis and a large quantity of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime.

Sefton Police Facebook page posted the news. The post said: "Operation Pelican have this evening arrested a 20-year-old male and a 41-year-old male both from Southport for Drug Supply Offences. Officers sighted a private hire vehicle in suspicious circumstances in the Bootle area before then carrying out a stop check in Netherton.

"During a search of the vehicle and the occupants, a kilo of suspected heroin was recovered. Both occupants were arrested and taken to police custody. Numerous searches of addresses then took place where police recovered cannabis and a large quantity of cash thought to be from the proceeds of crime."

People were quick to congratulate officers for the arrests. One person commented: "That’s good news. I’m glad you recovered the money and it will back into the coffers. Thank you."
