Kilmarnock woman's secret to long life as she celebrates 106th birthday with seventh card from Queen

An East Ayrshire woman celebrated her 106th birthday last month with her seventh card from Her Majesty the Queen.

Winnie Campbell (nee Orr) from Kilmarnock hit the grand old age on Wednesday, January 5.

From the town's Bonnyton area, Winnie was one of four children born to Harriet and Robert.

In 1940, Winnie, then aged 24, married the love of her life William and the pair went on to have four sons.

Winnie's first job was for Western SMT before becoming an assistant cook at Park Primary School.

Today, Winnie is still a huge Kilmarnock FC fan and even celebrated her 100th birthday at Rugby Park.

A champion for the elderly, Winnie won awards for her charitable efforts for the Elderly Forum.

Her son Norman Campbell said: "Mum loves her days out and loved trips to Blackpool.

"Whenever she was asked what helped her reach such a grand age she would always say that she never smoked or drank."

Winnie is a gran to eight children, a great-gran to nine kids and great-great gran to three youngsters.
