Kilmarnock's title-winning manager Derek McInnes bags second MOTM award in a row

Derek McInnes has scooped one final accolade in a title-winning season.

The Scottish Championship winning boss been named the league's Glen’s Manager of the Month for April, as Kilmarnock clinched first place and an immediate return to the Scottish Premiership.

McInnes guided Kilmarnock to the title with a dramatic victory over closest rivals Arbroath in front of a packed Rugby Park, with four other league games in April seeing Killie pick up three points against Dunfermline Athletic and draw with Greenock Morton and Raith Rovers away, with a loss against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

This is McInnes’ second Scottish Championship Glen’s Manager of the Month award, having also picked up the March accolade last month.

A delighted McInnes said: It’s a brilliant achievement and I’m so pleased for so many people at the club that we’ve achieved promotion this season.

“The players in particular have been a fantastic bunch to work with and it has pleased me no end to see how the supporters could party and enjoy the last game of the season.

“It’s never easy winning a title and this award is recognition of the collective effort of the group.”

Colin Matthews, CEO of Glen’s owner the Loch Lomond Group, said: “It has been another terrific Championship season, where Dick Campbell’s Arbroath have pushed Kilmarnock hard for the title, but Derek has guided his team through a tough series of matches to achieve their ultimate ambition of a quick return to the Scottish Premiership.

“His side held their nerve over the past couple of months and came back from a goal down against Arbroath to win the title in the most dramatic of matches, which was played out in front of a full house at Rugby Park, as well as a live television audience.

“The potential is there for all to see at Kilmarnock and Derek and his coaching staff have to be congratulated not only for winning consecutive Glen’s manager of the Month awards at a vital stage of the season, but also for delivering a Championship win when the club needed it most.”
