Kilmarnock league-winning hero Blair Alston says special night was dream come true

Kilmarnock’s league-winning hero Blair Alston admits Friday night was a dream come true.

The midfielder slotted home a dramatic 90th minute strike which handed Killie a 2-1 win against Arbroath – a result which sealed the Championship title with a game to spare.

Despite going behind early, man of the match Alston admits his side never stopped believing they’d be lifting the trophy at full time.

He said: “Obviously when you go 1-0 down so early you know you’ve got time.

“We didn’t look like scoring in the first half, we never played how we can.

“But there’s something about this team at home under the manager, we have been brilliant.

“As soon as we scored the first we knew there was always going to be a chance to win it.

“We are delighted that we got there in the end, it’s the sort of thing you dream about the night before.”

Alston has reflected on a long, hard season for the Rugby Park side.

Just two months ago they found themselves five points behind the Lichties, but they never stopped fighting.

Alston said: “We’ve been under pressure since the season started, everyone that plays us wants to take a scalp.

“It has been a difficult season for us, we didn’t play as well as we’d liked at times, but ultimately we believed the best team would win the league and we’ve done that.”

“We were under pressure to get this club back where it belongs.

“We didn’t do ourselves any favours at times, but it’s about getting the job done and that’s all that matters.”
