A talented boxer won a fight by the judges’ decision – with just one arm.
Ring king Shaun Maxwell says he felt his ligaments “ping off the bone” just 20 seconds into the fight.
But, incredibly, he managed to battle off his opponent and win the fight on points.
The 25-year-old forklift driver trained with boxing coach Gugy Singh in New Farm in the build-up to the fight.
Speaking exclusively to the Standard, Shaun said: “Two weeks before the fight, I pulled a muscle in my forearm. I went to the hospital and they told me to rest it for four weeks, but I wasn’t having that.

“I didn’t want to pull out of the fight and get criticised for it.
“So I went into the fight and after 20 seconds I threw a left hook and felt it snap completely. I actually heard it ping off the bone.
“I had to finish the fight with one arm. I have no idea how I managed to keep the arm up, the adrenaline got me through it and I managed to win with one arm.
“Gugy in my corner was shouting ‘Use your jab!’, but there was no way I could throw my arm out. Then at the end of the first round he asked what was wrong and I told him my left arm was completely gone. So he told me to keep my guard up and keep throwing punches with my right arm and that’s what I did – I just bit down on my gumshield and got through it.

“But it was agony. You could see in the video at the end when they were raising my arm that I was in so much pain.”
The fight was at a charity event at the Park Hotel in Kilmarnock, with most of the proceeds going to Jamie McClung’s family, a Kilmarnock man who took his own life last year.
The rest went to The Bunker gym who organised the event.
