Killing Eve star filming hit ITV drama in Wirral town

One of the stars of BBC drama, Killing Eve, has been spotted filming a hit ITV series in a Wirral town.

Filming for the second season of police drama, The Tower, is underway in Ellesmere Port. While the series is set in south-east London, Ellesmere Port is the latest in a string of North West locations that have been used to double as the capital in the show.

Among the cast is Gemma Whelan, who played Yaya Greyjoy in HBO fantasy drama, Game of Thrones. Gemma also featured prominently in The End of the F***ing World and smash-hit Killing Eve, where she took on the role of Geraldine Martens.

Aside from her appearances in Killing Eve, Gemma will also be familiar to viewers of Ben Elton's Upstart Crow, appearing as Kate in all episodes of the Shakespearean BBC comedy. She also depicted Karen Matthews, mother of Shannon Matthews, in BBC One's The Moorside , and appeared in Gentleman Jack as Marian Lister.

The Yorkshire-born actress won rave reviews for her portrayal of anti-corruption officer, Sarah Collins, in the first season of The Tower, which aired last autumn. The show also features Irish actor, Emmett J. Scanlan, known for his role as Billy Grade, ex-footballer and Peaky Blinders ally in the period phenomenon.

Scanlan has featured in blockbuster films, including Guardians of the Galaxy. He also appeared in In The Flesh on BBC Three, The Fall, and Derry Girls.

This is not the first time The Tower has used Cheshire as its backdrop. Last year, Whelan and Scanlan were spotted in Runcorn filming for series one of the ITV drama. Film crews descended on Runcorn Cemetery, which also stood in for London in the series.

The Tower has also used locations around Warrington, Liverpool and Tatton Park. Based on a novel by Kate London, it has been adapted for television by Homeland writer Patrick Harbinson.
