Down face a pivotal round two trip to Kildare on Sunday as they bid to pick up their first points of their Allianz Hurling League Division 2A campaign.
Ronan Sheehan’s side lost out to Offaly at Ballycran in their League opener last Sunday with the Faithful coming away from McKenna Park with a 0-21 to 0-18 win.
Should Offaly and Kerry defeat Derry and Carlow respectively, there’s the prospect of three teams opening up a four-point advantage at the top of the table if Down also lose to Kildare.
With only five games in the League, Down can ill afford to concede such ground early on.
Their cause wasn’t helped after Marc Fisher failed in his appeal to get his red card overturned from last weekend's loss to Offaly and his Ballygalget clubmate Jordan Doran is also suspended.
Down’s only defeat in the group stage of last season’s League was to Kildare while Sheehan’s side also lost the 2020 Christy Ring Cup final to the Lilywhites.
