Kieran Trippier leads the way in chances created for Newcastle United this season but his St James' Park team-mates are lagging far behind in the same department. The right-back has proved to be a fine addition on Tyneside and is enjoying an impressive presence at both ends of the pitch for Eddie Howe.
Trippier has created more chances than any Premier League player except Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne (75) this season, with a tally of 70 to date. The England international is averaging 3.1 big chances created in top flight games this term.
The gulf to any of his fellow Newcastle team-mates is huge, with Joe Willock and Joelinton (19) closest, putting them joint 71st in the Premier League standings.
Newcastle's lack of creativity was evident on Sunday as they failed to claw their way back into the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United. The Red Devils were ruthless as they all but killed off the tie as a contest with two goals in the space of six first-half minutes.
Trippier made the most key passes at Wembley with four from right-back as he consistently tried to aid Miguel Almiron down the right channel. There wasn't the same tactic used on the opposite flank as left-back Dan Burn left most of the attacking to Allan Saint-Maximin in front of him.
42 per cent of Newcastle's attacks came down the right, 31 per cent down the left and 27 per cent through the middle. Howe's side simply looked more dangerous when Trippier was involved.
As attention slowly starts to turn to the summer transfer window, Newcastle could do with adding a few more creative outlets to their ranks. A name that continues to rear its head is that of Leicester City star James Maddison.
The attacking midfielder has enjoyed another fine season at the King Power Stadium and sits 16th in the list of chances created in the Premier League this season with 38 to his name. Maddison has been on Newcastle's transfer shortlist for a number of months and many feel this summer could be the time for the England international to jump ship.
Howe's system may need to be tweaked to accommodate the 26-year-old but his arrival on Tyneside would be warmly received, and based on his stats this season, would bolster Newcastle in the attacking department.
