Kieran Trippier believes the decision to award Liverpool an early penalty against Tottenham Hotspur in the 2019 Champions League final "changed everything" about the game.
The two sides met in Madrid in the showpiece fixture having progressed through dramatic semi-final matches.
It was Liverpool who got off to the best start in the final though, with Moussa Sissoko deemed to have handled the ball in the area after Sadio Mane's cross cannoned into his upper arm.

Mohamed Salah converted the spot kick and while Spurs had chances throughout the final, it was Liverpool who netted again late on, with Divock Origi adding a second.
Trippier started the game and speaking to the True Geordie podcast (h/t This Is Anfield) he said Spurs were convinced they would win the final before that early blow.
"It was weird. Do you agree it was a penalty? Be honest!" he said. "Because Mane chips it, Sissoko’s already made himself big.
"That changed everything. We thought we were winning, I’m not going to lie, 100 percent.
"Just because the way the City game went, the Ajax game went, we felt confident.
"And then two minutes into the game or whatever it was, you get a penalty, and I think that just killed the game."
Trippier added that in his opinion "there were some moments where we were on top of the game" but Origi's strike meant the final was "done."
The two teams have embarked on different paths since that final, with Liverpool going on to win the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp and Spurs changing managers numerous times following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.
