Newcastle have received a positive update on Kieran Trippier, as the Englishman nears a return from injury ahead of the Magpies’ clash against West Ham.
Newcastle Positive Over Kieran Trippier Return From Injury
The former England international has been out of action for just under two months after struggling with a repeated hamstring injury – last featuring in Newcastle’s 0-0 draw at Everton on October 5th.
In his most recent press conference, Eddie Howe revealed the latest on Newcastle’s injury issues and confirmed that Trippier is edging closer to a return.
Howe said: “Kieran is slightly closer than Callum, I’d say. He trained yesterday, and trained well and felt good. There were no ill effects, and he looked sharp, but that was his first day’s training, so again, we’re in a similar position that right at the end of the rehab, you’ve got to navigate the last few days well.”
This does mean that Trippier will miss Newcastle’s next Premier League clash, as the Toon welcome a struggling West Ham to Tyneside.
The 34-year-old was one of Newcastle’s first signings after being taken over by the Public Investment Fund and RB Sports & Media.
So far, the former Tottenham Hotspur player has made 98 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side and contributed to 25 goals in the process (4G+21A).
However, his time at St James’ Park has been rumoured to be coming to an end over recent months, especially with the rise of Tino Livramento.
In the summer window, Trippier appeared to be on his way out and was heavily linked with a move to Everton and a reunion with his manager at Burnley, Sean Dyche.
His departure from the club could occur in January, as Newcastle need to raise funds to avoid any issues with Financial Fair Play rules.
Trippier is not the only one being linked with a move away, with the likes of Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron also on the list of players that may be moving on.
